When I was young, I had never heard of the word “transgender.” I didn’t know there was a reason why I felt so wrong in my body. I didn’t know I could do anything about that feeling, and I didn’t know there would be a community to support me in that process.
Today, exploration of identity is becoming more accessible to the youth. With this site, I am endeavoring to create a resource that gathers books featuring prominent transgender or gender non-conforming characters for readers under 13.
I hope that my work will allow students, parents, and teachers to access information that will help students become their truest selves. This is a resource that would have benefited me tremendously when I was younger, and I am grateful for the opportunity to create it now for my students.
